A mother, unaware of her missing son's whereabouts since 2016, discovered him begging with a gang in Tahli Mohri.
The gang, including three women and two men from Shikarpur, exploited the son's disability for begging.
When the mother, Shaheen Akhtar, found his abducted son, a former policeman, the gang attacked her. She said she hugged her son, but the women and men accompanying her son started thrashing and abusing her.
After this, the police rounded up the gang leader, Wahid, and three women of the beggars’ gang, while two managed to escape.
The mother further conveyed that she received a phone call from one of her son’s friends who shared his picture in which he was seen begging with other gang members. She instantly recognized his son and reunited with him.
His son was subjected to torture and given injections by the beggars’ gang.
Her mother expressed joy upon the reunion saying, “A large number of villagers and relatives have thronged my house and everyone is happy and congratulating me on the reunion with my son.”
The missing man, Mustakeem Khalid was married in 2006 and had two children. He joined the police department in 2006, but due to typhoid fever, he quit, because the fever affected his mental health.
He used to leave his house and got back after some days due to a mental disorder, but in 2016 he completely disappeared.
Initially, her mother didn’t seek police help and traced his whereabouts on her own but later, she lodged an FIR with the Civil Lines police, describing the mental situation of his son.
The mother now pleaded for justice. Furthermore, police confirmed ongoing raids to apprehend the remaining gang members, emphasizing that Wahid is the brother of two previously detained women.
