Karachi Police are yet to trace armed robbers who looted the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) residence of a senior police official and his politician wife.

The incident took place at the home of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Tauheed Rehman and his spouse, Aqraba Fatima, a Pakistan Peoples Party member and Sindh government spokesperson, on Friday night.

Quoting sources, a media report said that a group of five armed men arrived in a sport utility vehicle (SUV). It said that they held  the senior police officer and his spouse hostage at their home in DHA and looted a large amount of cash and gold ornaments.

According to the police, a group of robbers, travelling in luxury vehicles, is committing robberies in the city’s posh areas.

As per the FIR, guard Faisal Altaf stated that he was asleep in the guardroom around 4:45am when three armed men woke him, forced him inside, where family members were already held hostage.

The suspects demanded keys of the cupboards and valuables, searched the house for about half an hour, and left after locking the doors. They reportedly warned the occupants not to follow them.

SSP Rehman later told police that the robbers took away cash and valuables, including foreign and local currency worth around Rs10 million, gold jewellery estimated at over Rs10 million, and a mobile phone.

The case has been registered under Section 395 (dacoity) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
