PTI founder Imran Khan shifted to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad under tight security

ISLAMABAD: The leader of PTI Imran Khan has been moved to the Shifa International Hospital located in Islamabad early today according to the orders issued by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

The jailed former Prime Minister has been escorted from his detention place through Patras Bukhari Road to enter the hospital through Gate Number 1.

The imprisoned former PM Imran has been serving his 14 years sentence at the Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi since Aug 5, 2023, in the £190 million corruption case commonly known as the Al-Qadir Trust case. However, his health condition has worsened since he has been sentenced to imprisonment in the corruption case. Members of the party had objected to this.

Preparations were made last night in the hospital for the arrival of the imprisoned former Prime Minister. According to sources, representatives of different departments and authorities including the capital administration, police, jail authorities and Rangers had arrived in the hospital to make security and other arrangements.

As per a security order issued by the Islamabad Police, hundreds of people from different branches of police force have been placed in the area.

These people were expected to ensure four things: protection of the “life, property and [the] dignity of citizens”, security against “terrorist acts”, maintenance of public order and smooth movement of traffic.

The order further states that the Islamabad chief traffic officer will make arrangements of parking and traffic in the area and search all the abandoned vehicles and motorcycles.

Moreover, security pickets have been set up on roads approaching the facility while a security audit of the hospital has been carried out.
