Sheikhupura: Pregnant woman dies after being set on fire by in-laws over dowry

A five-month pregnant woman, who was allegedly set on fire by her in-laws in Ferozewala, Sheikhupura, has succumbed to her burn injuries.

According to media reports, around 70 per cent of her body suffered burn wounds. She was set on fire by her in-laws, who were unhappy with her dowry.

Acting swiftly, the police have arrested her mother-in-law, one of the suspects nominated in the FIR.

In a post on X, Chairperson of the Punjab Women Protection Authority Hina Parvez Butt said: “This incident of allegedly burning a woman to death in Sheikhupura is extremely tragic. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has taken a serious notice of the incident. On the chief minister’s directions, I have sought a report from the DPO Sheikhupura."

She added that the police have arrested the nominated suspect, the mother-in-law, assuring that the affected family will be provided complete legal assistance.
