Police have registered a case against two young men for allegedly raping and robbing a transgender person in Bahawalnagar.

According to media reports, the victim, who earns a living by performing at wedding ceremonies, was at her residence in Allama Iqbal Town on September 9 when two men from Chak 314-HR arrived and invited her to a wedding function.

During the visit, one of the suspects allegedly assaulted the transgender person while the other stood guard.

As the victim cried for help, nearby residents rushed to the spot, prompting the suspects to flee after snatching her wallet, which contained cash and documents, along with her mobile phone.

A police spokesperson later confirmed that both men had been taken into custody.

In July, a 21-year-old man was allegedly murdered by his father in Karachi's Orangi Town area over friendship with transgender persons.

Station House Officer (SHO) of Iqbal Market, Sher Mohammed, confirmed the arrest of Abdul Ghaffar Khan, who is accused of killing his son, Ali Khan, using a shovel at their residence in Raja Tanveer Colony, Sector 11½.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the father was deeply disturbed by his son’s association with members of the transgender community.
