Arshad Nadeem qualifies for Commonwealth Games Javelin final

Pakistan's Olympic and Commonwealth champion Arshad Nadeem has qualified for the men's javelin throw final at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after securing a place among the top 12 performers in the qualification round.

Arshad recorded a best throw of 78.63 metres, finishing seventh overall in the qualifiers to advance to the medal round. No athlete surpassed the automatic qualifying mark of 84 metres, meaning the 12 finalists were selected based on their best throws.

Sri Lanka's Rumesh Tharanga topped the qualification standings with a throw of 82.84 metres, followed by Grenada's Anderson Peters in second and South Africa's Douw Smit in third. India's Neeraj Chopra qualified in fifth place with a best throw of 79.61 metres.

Pakistan's Yasir Sultan finished 14th with a best throw of 74.36 metres, narrowly missing out on a place in the final.

Arshad will enter the final as the defending Commonwealth champion. He won gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham with a record-breaking throw of 90.18 metres, setting a Games record and becoming the first South Asian athlete to throw beyond the 90-metre mark.
