India’s persistent refusal to play International Cricket Council (ICC) Champion Trophy matches in Pakistan has delayed the release of the tournament schedule.
Controversy erupted after the ICC announced that Pakistan would host the Champion Trophy. India subsequently refused to travel to Pakistan due to security concerns.
The ICC has yet to resolve the issue, which is delaying the announcement of the match schedule.
“The issue has not been solved so far. India has refused to travel to Pakistan to play a tournament, and Pakistan has also denied to accept a hybrid model” of ICC, said sources.
"It’s impossible to announce a schedule within 24 hours, as there’s been no progress on the matter," the sources added.
Sources said that if stakeholders show flexibility, then the schedule could be announced in a day or two. On the other hand, stakeholders are not ready to hold the Champion Trophy 2025 without India.
Meanwhile, broadcasters and commercial partners are not accepting the 'minus India' Champion Trophy, expressing intentions of legal action if the decision goes against their wishes.
It should be noted that the ICC is trying to resolve the scheduling issue before Jay Shah becomes ICC Chairman on December 1.
Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi has said that the Champions Trophy will be held in Pakistan, stating that India should share documented complaints with Pakistan if it has any reservations.
