Neymar has indicated that his international career is over, saying he no longer wants to represent Brazil after the team's World Cup exit earlier this month.

The 34-year-old made the remarks after Santos FC defeated Venezuela's Universidad Central 4-2 in a Copa Sudamericana match on Tuesday.

"I think my time with the national team has already passed. I made history there, and I'm very happy about it. I experienced a lot there, gave my blood and my life, and always fought for the yellow jersey. But I don't think I want it anymore," Neymar told reporters.

His comments echoed those he made after Brazil's 2-1 defeat to Norway in the World Cup round of 16 on July 5.

After coming off the bench and scoring a stoppage-time penalty in that match, Neymar told Brazilian broadcaster: "I tried, I tried. Now it's over."

The defeat marked Brazil's earliest World Cup exit since 1990 and extended the five-time champions' wait for a sixth world title.

Brazil's all-time leading scorer represented his country at four World Cups and finished his international career with 80 goals and 58 assists in 130 appearances. Although he enjoyed a successful club career with Santos, FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain F.C., his only major senior international trophy was the 2013 Confederations Cup.
