Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has reportedly stepped in to cover fast bowler Haris Rauf’s fine, after the International Cricket Council (ICC) docked him 30 per cent of his match fee.
The fine was imposed by ICC following the heated Asia Cup encounter between Pakistan and India on September 14, where both Rauf and India’s skipper Suryakumar Yadav were found guilty of violating the ICC Code of Conduct. Each player was fined 30 per cent of their match fee.
The ICC also issued a warning to Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan for his celebratory “gun gesture” during the Super Fours clash against India. According to reports, Farhan explained at the hearing that the gesture was a Pashtun tradition from his native Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and carried no political message.

As for Rauf, the match referee raised questions about his repeated ‘6-0’ hand gesture. Rauf, however, asked what exactly the gesture was taken to mean. He clarified that it was directed toward fans as part of the atmosphere and not intended to convey any other message.
The referee reportedly struggled to counter Rauf’s explanation, and the ICC has not yet confirmed whether further disciplinary action will follow for either player.
Meanwhile, Samaa TV reported that Chairman Naqvi has chosen to personally settle Rauf’s fine.
