Indian Tennis star Sania Mirza took khula, a form of divorce sought by the wife in Islamic law, from former Pakistan skipper Shoaib Malik due to the latter's alleged relations with other girls, sources said on Saturday.

According to sources, the celebrated duo went their separate ways last year but Shoaib Malik reserves visitation rights with his son, Izhaan Mirza Malik, in Dubai.

Sources added that Mirza was unhappy with Malik's relations with other girls but she decided to "remain silent" on this matter.

However, the 37-year-old took the decision to part ways when her patience wore thin.

The revelation from both sides came when Shoaib Malik announced his second marriage to Sana Javed on Saturday.

Malik took to his Instagram account and shared the news with a picture of a newly-weds adorned in white attire.

“Alhamdullilah ❤️ "And We created you in pairs," the cricketer wrote in a caption.

The Dunk actress also changed her Instagram username to Sana Shoaib Malik.

Controversy surrounding the marriage arose when the cricketer's brother-in-law, Imran Zafar, revealed that none of Shoaib Malik's family members attended the wedding ceremony.

Zafar added that he learned about the marriage through social media.

Talking about the separation, Zafar said the family tried to salvage the relationship of the duo during a two-week stay in Dubai at the end of 2022, but it went in vain.

"Malik's family was not in favour of his divorce from Sania Mirza," he added.

On the other hand, Sania Mirza's father, Imran Mirza, confirmed that her daughter took a khula from Shoaib Malik.

Responding to the questions about Sania Mirza's divorce from Shoaib Malik, Imran said: "It is a khula."

The couple tied the knot in 2010 in a lavish wedding ceremony in Hyderabad, India and celebrated their Walima in Sialkot. The duo welcomed their first child, Izhaan in 2018.
