Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has demanded Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to pay a hefty amount of Rs10 million for coaching the national cricket team, sources said on Tuesday.
However, the demand seemed to halt the cricket body from venturing with Quetta Gladiators' coach.
Watson’s demeanour suggested that he might not be interested in playing the role of coach for the Green Shirts, as "he is willing to spend his time with family".
Sources added that PCB is insisting Watson to take responsibility due to the limited options but following Watson’s demand it is unlikely the deal will be finalized with him.
Mike Hesson and Daren Sammy are also among the contenders for the coaching role. They both have been performing coaching duties in Pakistan Super League (PSL), for Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi, respectively.
The report also said that the discussions are underway with Mike Hesson, but 'he has not responded yet and sought time to consider the offer'.
It further added that it could be a tough task for Mohsin Naqvi-led PCB to search for a head coach as most world-class cricketers have already been working with different leagues.
However, it is also possible that the PCB would fill the vacancy with a local coach due to a five-match T20 home series with New Zealand, slated to take place in April.
