Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has called for a "major surgery" for the national cricket team, arguing that after a string of disappointing losses by the Green Shirts in the T20 World Cup tournament, it is time to give opportunities to “new” talent.
Addressing a press conference after the match, Mohsin Naqvi voiced his disappointment with the team's performance, stating that Pakistan cricket is currently at its lowest point.
PCB head hinted at a major change, emphasising that improving the team's performance remains his biggest challenge.
“We thought the cricket team might get better with minor surgery, but after today's abysmal performance, a major surgery is necessary," he said.
He stressed the need to prepare for the Champions Trophy, suggesting it is time to give new talent a chance by integrating them into the squad.
He maintained that the Pakistan cricket team needs to become one of the best in the world and added that he has a clear understanding of the team's internal issues and the reasons behind their recent losses.
The Green Shirts captain Babar Azam won the toss and invited Indian skipper Rohit Sharma to bat first in the T20 World Cup 2024 Group A match on Sunday at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
After India's batting lineup faltered and collapsed for a mere 119 runs in 19 overs, Pakistan's win seemed certain with such a low target. However, the batsmen fell short of expectations again, only managing 113 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs.
