"Every father dreams that his daughter gets married and settles into her home," remarked an elder of the Hindu community in Karachi.
Thousands gathered as the Pakistan Hindu Council organized a mass wedding ceremony for 106 couples in Karachi. While the primary objective of the event was to facilitate the marginalized section of the minority community, it also served as a beautiful display of cultural diversity, inclusivity, unity, and social bonds in Pakistan.
Speaking to Dialogue Pakistan, a senior member of the Pakistan Hindu Council shared that the organization has been holding mass weddings for the past 18 years. He further added that they provide needy families with all the arrangements for the wedding ceremony, including traditional rites and customary gifts for the marrying couples.
For Hindus, marriage is considered a commitment for seven lifetimes (Janmas)—a religious concept tied to the cycle of birth and rebirth. This belief is symbolized and embodied in the ritual of Saptapadi, where the groom and bride tie the knot and complete seven rounds around a sacred fire.
The participating families and guests expressed their joy and shared blessings and good wishes with the newlywed couples.
