Bangladesh's University of Dhaka has lifted the ban on Pakistani students in an effort to foster bilateral educational ties.

Professor Saima Haque, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Admin), announced Dhaka University will now accept Pakistani students. Students from Bangladesh will also be able to study in Pakistan for higher education.

In order to foster educational cooperation between the two nations, the decision to lift the ban on Pakistani students was made.

On Monday, Professor Sayema Haque affirmed that the decision will take effect after Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan, DU's vice-chancellor, signs the required paperwork.

The vice chancellor is currently overseas, she added. The decision was made after DU received proposals from Pakistan for seminars and scholarships that would benefit both DU students and teachers, according to a Bangladeshi media outlet.

According to Professor Haque, the syndicate unanimously approved these proposals when the vice chancellor presented them to them.

The university has made a major policy change by deciding to resume academic exchanges while taking faculty and student interests into account.

Since the DU syndicate, under the leadership of then-Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique, decided to cut all ties with Pakistani institutions on December 14, 2015, academic relations with Pakistan have been prohibited.

DU had forbidden its representatives, instructors, and students from traveling to Pakistani institutions under the ban.
