US President Donald Trump has halted military aid to Ukraine, increasing pressure on the country to enter peace negotiations with Russia.
The decision came just a day after a tense clash between US officials and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at Trump’s Oval Office, where the US pushed for an immediate ceasefire between the two European nations.
Earlier, Trump had refused to rule out a pause in defense aid to Ukraine, arguing that any disruption in the flow of US arms to the frontlines would quickly weaken Ukraine’s ability to resist the Russian invasion.

“The President has cleared that he focuses on peace. We need our partners to be committed to that goal as well,” a White House official told AFP, speaking on condition of anonymity.
“We are pausing and reviewing our aid to ensure that it is contributing to a solution,” the official added.
Trump had cleared earlier that he would “not put up” longer with the Ukrainian president’s stance as the Ukrainian leader should be “more appreciative”.
Speaking at the White House, President Trump said Zelensky would not be around very long without a ceasefire deal with Moscow.
The immediate pause affects the shipment of hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of weapons to Ukraine, according to a report by The New York Times.

Meanwhile, Zelensky called for an immediate end to the war. The comment came after the Ukraininan president accused that Russia is not serious about reaching a ceasefire.
He believes that robust security guarantees are essential to resolving the conflict, but Trump's position disrupted US support for Ukraine and raised concerns about a potential US shift towards Russia, unsettling Washington's allies in the process.
