Shortly after being sworn in, US President-elect Donald Trump began implementing key policies he had announced during his election campaign. He signed executive orders declaring that there are only two biological genders and barring diversity programs.

President Trump rolled back the predecessor’s order while terming it “unpopular, inflationary, illegal, and radical practices within every agency”.

He revoked two orders from the Biden administration aimed at preventing discrimination based on gender identity or sexual orientation.

The latest order issued by the Trump administration designated there are only two genders male and female and declared that cannot be changed.

NBC News quoted officials defending the order as a measure to counter gender ideology extremism and restore biological truth to the federal government.

In 2022, the Biden administration allowed US citizens to be able to select the gender-neutral “X” as a marker on their passports.

The official believed that the gender order will prevent taxpayer funds from being used for gender-transition health care and add “privacy in intimate spaces” such as facilities such as prisons, migrant shelters and rape shelters.

The second order ended the diversity, equality and inclusion (DEI) programmes inside the federal government agencies.

Several private companies, including McDonald's, Walmart and Facebook have ended or scaled back their DEI programmes since Trump's arrival.
