Karachi police have arrested more than 90 suspects in connection with aerial firing incidents during Independence Day celebrations on Thursday. Police recovered 68 illegal weapons and registered 111 cases against suspects.

According to officials, additional cases of murder and attempted murder were also lodged against those involved.

The city’s police surgeon reported that three people, including an 8-year-old girl, lost their lives due to stray bullets, while 114 others sustained injuries.

The injured were rushed to various hospitals, with Abbasi Shaheed Hospital receiving the highest number at 43, followed by Jinnah Hospital with 41, and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Trauma Center with 30 cases.

Authorities noted that this year’s toll marks the highest number of deaths and injuries from aerial firing on Independence Day in recent memory. Last year, similar celebrations left two people dead and 100 injured.
