Iran on Wednesday executed three men for committing a series of armed robberies that terrorised residents of Tehran and other cities.

The men — identified as Amir Reza Ghobadi, Majid Hatami, and Sajjad Hatami — were described as leading members of a violent criminal group that referred to itself as the “Gang of Terror,” and was also known online as the “Gangsters.”

The executions were carried out by hanging early in the morning, officials confirmed.

Authorities said the gang was behind a string of home invasions and armed robberies reported in several parts of Tehran in May 2024, including Janat Abad, Sardar Jangal Street, Simon Bolivar Street, and Punak.

Victims reported that masked assailants, armed with Kalashnikov rifles and handguns, broke into homes late at night, threatened families, and stole money, gold, and other valuables. In some cases, the robbers allegedly assaulted residents and even forced a young girl to remove her jewelry at gunpoint before locking the family inside a room.

Investigators found that the gang used fake license plates, covered their faces and hands to avoid identification, and carried out their crimes around 10 p.m. each night. The group was ultimately linked to at least 14 armed robberies before being apprehended and sentenced to death by the Iranian judiciary.
