Iran says it won't resume talks with US until June deal is honoured

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Sunday that Tehran and Washington are not holding direct talks and that Iran would not enter negotiations while the United States continues to violate an interim agreement reached in June.

Araghchi said the two sides were still communicating through intermediaries, with messages being passed between them despite the absence of direct negotiations.

He also said an agreement between Iran and Oman on the Strait of Hormuz had reached its “final stages”. However, he made clear that the strategic waterway would remain closed for now.

According to comments reported by Iran's Mehr news agency, Araghchi said the agreement would determine new shipping routes to be used after the Strait of Hormuz is reopened.

He said the waterway would only be opened once the United States meets the other conditions set out in the agreement.
