Following the explosion of Cybertruck outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, the investigation revealed that the suspect had used ChatGPT to plan the blast.

The suspect, who had taken his own life just before the explosion, had asked ChatGPT for an estimate of "how much explosive was needed to trigger the blast," Reuters cited officials as saying.

A week ago, 37-year-old Matthew Livelbeger, an active-duty Army soldier from Colorado Springs, was found dead inside the Cybertruck. The official stated that he was a suspect in the explosion and had fatally shot himself before the blast.

Moreover, the Associated Press quoted his writings, which indicated that he did not intend to kill anyone else.

However, the investigation unfolded the channel from where he got the idea of the explosion.

His searches through ChatGPT indicated that he had been looking for information on explosive targets, how much explosive material would be required, the distance certain rounds of ammunition would travel, and whether fireworks were legal in Arizona.

Kevin McMahill, sheriff of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, called generative AI a "game-changer," and stated that the information was being shared with other law enforcement agencies.

"This is the first incident that I’m aware of on U.S. soil where ChatGPT was used to help an individual build a particular device," he said. "It’s a concerning moment," AP reported, citing McMahill.

However, according to OpenAI, "ChatGPT responded with information already publicly available on the internet," and it reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the technology is used
