Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has unveiled the King Salman Gate Project, a large-scale development planned next to the Grand Mosque in Makkah.
Spanning an area of 12 million square meters, the ambitious project is part of Saudi Vision 2030 and aims to enhance infrastructure, facilities, and services for millions of pilgrims visiting the holy city each year, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
Officials said that the mixed-use development will feature residential, cultural, and service complexes, as well as spacious indoor and outdoor courtyards capable of accommodating up to 900,000 worshippers.
The area will also be linked to Makkah’s public transport network to ensure smoother access to the Grand Mosque.

Designed to combine traditional Makkah architecture with modern design, the project will restore and highlight about 19,000 square meters of historical and cultural landmarks within the area.
Developed by the RUA AlHaram AlMakki Company, a subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund (PIF), the initiative focuses on sustainability, innovation, and the preservation of Mecca’s spiritual and cultural heritage. Officials estimate the project will generate more than 300,000 jobs by 2036.
