United States President Donald Trump said on Monday that talks with Iran were continuing at a "rapid pace".

His statement regarding continuing dialogue with Iran was made shortly after the report that the Iranian side had not communicated to him their suspension of talks with Washington. However, he stated that silence would be okay and that he did not mind waiting for as long as necessary.

"If I may be honest, we've been talking far too much. If anything, it would serve us very well to go completely quiet, and possibly for a very long time," Trump reportedly said in an interview with NBC News.

"Let me put you straight: It does not mean that I'm going to start dropping bombs on everybody all over there. I'm not. I'll just stay quiet and maintain our blockade," the American President reportedly said.

"Their silence would not be problematic for me. I think I can stay silent as long as they do. They're losing a lot of money."

The report from the official news agency of Iran, Tasnim, revealed earlier that Iran suspended indirect negotiations with the United States after Israel decided to order its forces to penetrate further into Lebanese territory amid attempts to end the three-month war.

According to Tasnim, the negotiation team of the Islamic Republic has decided to cease communicating with Washington via mediators due to attacks on Lebanon, where the US-Israeli war against Iran has sparked the Israeli conflict with Hezbollah.

The development noted by Tasnim is yet another hurdle on the road towards a rapid resolution of the crisis, following the announcement from Iran regarding its attack on a US airbase amid US strikes on Iranian military facilities.

Oil prices have surged more than $6 per barrel following the Tasnim report.
