Trump says Israel would lose US support if it annexes West Bank

US President Donald Trump has warned that Israel would lose America's support if it annexed the West Bank.

In an interview with TIME magazine published Thursday, Trump cleared: “It won’t happen because I gave my word to the Arab countries…" He added that Israel would lose all of its support from the United States if that happened.

The remarks come after Israeli lawmakers voted on Wednesday to advance two bills related to the annexation of the occupied West Bank.

Earlier Thursday, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar indicated that the government had decided not to push forward with an immediate annexation vote, citing the need to safeguard the success of Trump’s proposed multi-stage Gaza plan.

Settlement construction in the West Bank has accelerated since 2022, following the rise of Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, which is considered the most right-wing in Israel’s history.

The coalition includes ultra-nationalist partners who advocate for the annexation of both the West Bank and Gaza.
