The US has announced to levy 25% tariff on countries that continue trade relations with Iran amid rising tensions between the US and Iran.
In a statement on social media, Trump warned that any country engaging in trade with Iran would face a 25 percent tariff on all forms of trade with the US. He claimed the decision to be “final” and said that it would take effect immediately.
According to Trump, the policy is aimed at discouraging trade or any business dealings with Iran and increasing economic pressure on its government.
“Any nation that does business with Iran will be required to pay a 25 percent tariff on all trade with the United States,” he said.
The US president has previously issued strict warnings to the Iranian government over the use of force against protesters.
A day earlier, Trump claimed that the US is considering multiple options in response to the situation in Iran, including the possibility of military action.
The decision by the US president can have far-reaching consequences for global trade and diplomatic relations for countries having trade relations with Iran.
