Washington: The US Supreme Court has invalidated President Donald Trump’s global tariff measures, ruling that he exceeded his authority in imposing them.

According to reports, the Court held on Friday that the tariffs had been enacted beyond the scope of presidential powers, with significant repercussions for international trade.

In its decision, the Court stated that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act does not grant the US President the authority to impose tariffs in the manner undertaken.

The ruling is being described as a major judicial setback for President Trump’s economic policy, as tariffs were widely regarded as a central instrument of his trade agenda.

Legal experts suggest the decision could also affect trade agreements concluded this year, as it establishes clearer limits on which policies a president may implement without congressional approval.

It is worth noting that President Trump had imposed tariffs on a number of countries, including Pakistan.

Last month, Trump had warned that an adverse court ruling would create significant difficulties for the United States.
