A Chinese woman working at a government-affiliated organisation in Hubei province allegedly attempted to poison a pregnant colleague at the workplace to avoid extra work during her maternity leave.
A video emerged online showing the woman accused of poisoning, adding a substance to her colleague's drink.
The pregnant woman had been experiencing changes in the taste of her beverages, which she had also discussed with other colleagues on WeChat App.
When one of her coworkers made a lighthearted remark about someone possibly tampering with her drinks, she decided to take precautions. One day, she placed her iPad with the camera facing her desk to see if anyone tampered with it.
To her horror, she watched in disbelief as a coworker added a powdery substance to her drink. She filed a complaint with the police and they started an investigation into the matter.
The Hydrology and Water Resources Investigation Bureau, where the alleged poisoning took place on March 18th is exercising caution after the incident.
Representatives from the organisation have stated that they are awaiting the results of the police investigation before taking any action.
Legal experts explained that if malicious intent is proven, the woman's actions could be considered assault, regardless of the specific substance used or any physical harm.
