Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced the distribution of 100,000 laptops among students across Pakistan under the Prime Minister’s Youth Laptop Scheme, emphasising that the allocation will be based strictly on merit.

Speaking at an International Youth Day event in Islamabad on Tuesday, the premier said the laptops would be provided to eligible students from all four provinces, the federal capital, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. He assured that the process would be free of favouritism or nepotism.

According to government guidelines, students must be enrolled in recognised public sector institutions and pursuing a PhD, MS/MPhil, Master’s or Bachelor’s degree. Applicants are required to meet academic criteria, including a minimum CGPA of 2.80 or 60% marks. First-year students must submit their Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) results, while first-semester MS or PhD students must provide their previous degree results.

The scheme includes specific quotas, with 18% of laptops reserved for students in higher education institutions in Balochistan and 5% for distance learning students.

Eligible students can apply through the Prime Minister’s Digital Youth Hub mobile application or by visiting the PM Youth Programme website at www.pmyp.gov.pk.
