KARACHI: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has introduced a new fee for passengers traveling on domestic flights.
According to a recently issued notification, a fee of Rs 100 will be applicable to individuals flying within the country. This fee is set to be collected at the time of booking a ticket, with airlines indicating that passengers will encounter an additional charge of Rs 100 during the booking process.
The CAA has issued a directive to all airlines, mandating the compulsory collection of this fee from every domestic passenger at the time of booking. Airlines are required to adhere to this directive by charging passengers accordingly and subsequently submitting the collected fees to the Civil Aviation Authority.
To formalize the implementation of this new fee for domestic flight passengers, an official notification has been issued. This move is in accordance with the Airport Charges Fee Collection Ordinance, which officially came into effect on January 15, as outlined in the CAA's announcement.
As a result, travelers booking domestic flights will now need to factor in this additional charge, marking a notable change in the fee structure for domestic air travel in the region.
This initiative is part of the CAA's ongoing efforts to streamline and regulate aviation-related fees, ensuring the sustainable development of the aviation sector while meeting operational requirements.
It remains to be seen how this new fee will impact domestic air travel and whether it will lead to any changes in passenger behavior or industry dynamics.
