Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has called on the government to reduce petrol prices in Pakistan significantly, arguing that they should be fixed at 225 rupees following the recent United States–Iran agreement and the decline in global oil prices.
Addressing a press conference in Lahore on Thursday, he said that the United States had failed to achieve its stated objectives in the recent conflict, while also referring to Israel as an “illegitimate state”.
Hafiz Naeem said the US–Iran agreement was a positive development for regional stability and praised Pakistan for playing what he described as a constructive role in facilitating peace efforts.
He added that Pakistan had also worked alongside Gulf countries to promote diplomatic solutions and reduce tensions in the region.
He further stated that the proposed Saudi defence agreement should be expanded to include Türkiye and Iran, arguing that broader regional cooperation would strengthen collective security.
The Jamaat-e-Islami chief emphasised that falling global oil prices should directly benefit consumers in Pakistan, urging the authorities to pass on the relief without delay.
He maintained that economic fairness required immediate adjustment in domestic fuel pricing in line with international market trends.
