Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) said on Monday it has started oil production from its Bobi Deep-1 well located in the Bobi and Dhamraki mining lease area in Sanghar district of Sindh.

In a statement, the state-owned company said the well is currently producing 2,000 barrels of oil per day from the Massive Sand of the Lower Goru Formation.

OGDCL had earlier announced the discovery of oil and gas at the site on June 3.

The company said it also completed a 1.5-kilometre flowline connecting the well to the Bobi Plant, allowing production to begin quickly and helping bring the discovery into use without delay.

As the sole operator of the Bobi and Dhamraki mining lease, OGDCL said the entire project was carried out using local expertise and resources.

The company said the new production would help improve domestic energy supplies and reduce Pakistan’s dependence on imported oil.

Earlier this year, OGDCL also started commercial production from the Baragzai X-01 exploratory well in Kohat, which it described as its highest-producing oil well.

That well is currently producing around 6,100 barrels of oil per day, along with 18 million cubic feet of gas and 50 tonnes of LPG daily.
