A subsidiary of UK-domiciled Attock Oil Company, Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL), has announced the discovery of oil and gas reserves in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
POL, with the collaboration of Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDC), and Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), discovered the reserves in KP's Tal Block.
The discovery was made at the Razgir 1 exploratory well located in the Tal Block, which would provide 250 barrels of crude oil and 20 million cubic meters of standard cubic gas per day to the country.
The announcement of the recently found reserves was made by a notification of the Pakistan Stroke Exchange (PSX).
The notification highlighted the benefits of discovery that would boost Pakistan’s energy sector and reduce dependency on imported energy.
The company began the process of drilling at Razgir 1 at the commencement of the year 2024 with the joint venture of POL.
Previously, the officials had unearthed gas and oil reserves in two separate places in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
On March 27, OGDC announced that it had discovered a hydrocarbon reserve in the Kohat district of KP.
In a notification to PSX on January 2024, Mari Petroleum reported that Pakistan found notable fresh oil and gas reserves in the North Waziristan district in KP province as well as awarded new oil and gas blocks to step up exploration activities and reduce reliance on imports.
