The government has begun reviewing possible changes to the scheme governing the import of used vehicles, under which the Personal Baggage Scheme may be abolished, while the Gift Scheme and Transfer of Residence Scheme are proposed to be made more stringent.
The government is considering abolishing one of the schemes for importing used vehicles, while preparing to tighten regulations for the remaining two.
The Ministry of Commerce has prepared a summary and sent it to the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet, recommending that the Personal Baggage Scheme be discontinued.
It has also proposed stricter enforcement of the Transfer of Residence and Gift Schemes, with measures aimed at preventing the misuse of these schemes.
Senior government officials confirmed that various proposals are under consideration to tighten the Gift and Transfer of Residence schemes for used vehicle imports, while the Personal Baggage Scheme may be scrapped altogether.
The final decision will be made by the Economic Coordination Committee.
