PM Shehbaz-led govt borrows 113% more loans than caretakers

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif-led coalition government borrowed more loans in 90 days than the previous Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar's caretaker setup.
According to the documents of the State Bank of Pakistan, the current government took 113 percent more loans than the interim stakeholders during the three months.
The documents stated that from March to May 2024, the federal government borrowed Rs3.11 billion, while caretakers' loans were Rs1.416 billion in three months from December 2023 to February 2024.
Moreover, by the end of May 2024, the debt reached Rs678.16 billion. However, the borrowing of February 2024 led domestic debt to Rs648.06 billion, which was Rs633.90 billion in November 2023.
Before leaving the portfolio, Dr Shamshad-led finance ministry claimed that Ishaq Dar contracted Rs19.862 trillion worth of domestic debt through government security and paid out 14.03 trillion.
In comparison the caretaker ministry had contracted a slightly lower domestic debt of Rs19.83 trillion.
