The National Highway Authority (NHA) has set 2028 as the completion deadline for the long-delayed Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway (M-6) project, officials informed the National Assembly’s Economic Affairs Committee during a briefing on Thursday.
According to NHA officials, a general procurement notice has been issued, while negotiations for joint financing are under way with the OPEC Fund for International Development and the Saudi Fund for Development. Construction work will formally begin after the award of contracts, the committee was told.
During the session, committee members raised concerns over the loan obtained from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) for the project.
Committee Chairman noted that the interest rate on the loan exceeds 6%, to which NHA officials responded that the financing was secured under IsDB’s standard terms, with a 20-year repayment period and a five-year grace period.
