Muslim volunteer and father arrested after assisting protesters in New Delhi

A Muslim volunteer, Junaid, and his father, Mustafa, who had been helping provide food, drinking water, and other basic necessities to demonstrators during protests in New Delhi, were detained by Delhi Police, according to Indian media reports.

Junaid said police officers arrived at their home in Ghaziabad, conducted a search, and took his father into custody.

He further alleged that officers seized bank passbooks, PAN cards, and other documents from the house.

According to media reports, Junaid's sister alleged that police pressured their father to call Junaid and ask him to return from Delhi.

She also claimed that relatives in Meerut were harassed by the authorities. However, Meerut Police denied the allegation.

The protest organizers alleged that the action against Junaid's family was intended to intimidate those supporting the demonstration.

According to the organization, authorities were attempting to pressure Junaid into ending his involvement in the protest by targeting his family.

Media reports stated that Junaid was stopped at around 5:30 p.m. on the same day he was scheduled to sit for a paramedical examination.

Junaid said several individuals initially did not identify themselves but later said they were Delhi Police officers before taking him away in a white vehicle.

According to Junaid, while in custody he was questioned about the organization of the protest and its alleged funding.

He said officers asked how the large-scale provision of food, drinking water, and other facilities for protesters was being financed.
