Renowned ride-hailing app, Uber, ceased its application in Pakistan, and its subsidiary brand Careem will continue its operation in the country.
“We have made the decision to cease operating the Uber app in Pakistan,” Uber’s spokesperson said in a statement issued on Tuesday.
“Our subsidiary Careem will continue to operate with its app and offer rides and earning opportunities for drivers across Pakistan,” it added.
It is pertinent to mention here that in 2019, Uber acquired its rival Careem for $3.1 billion in the Middle East.
Back in 2022, Uber had announced shutting down its operations in five major cities in Pakistan, including Karachi, Multan, Faisalabad, Peshawar, and Islamabad, and limited itself only to Lahore.
However, the company informed their users about ceasing their app via email: “It had made the difficult decision to no longer offer the Uber app services in Lahore from April 30.”
“In light of this, Careem Rides may reach out to you to check in and sign up,” the email read.
