Senior Provincial Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has said that work on the Red Line BRT project on University Road is progressing rapidly and the mixed traffic lanes will be completed by August.
Speaking to the media after visiting the Red Line BRT project site, Sharjeel Memon stated that the biggest issue on University Road is mixed traffic, and work is therefore continuing around the clock to resolve it.
He added that the relocation of utility lines is also being carried out swiftly.
He said that Karachi is the country’s busiest city, and carrying out development projects here is more challenging compared to other cities because water supply, Sui gas and optical fibre lines run beneath the roads, making relocation a time-consuming process.
He noted that shifting one Water Board pipeline alone took four days.
Sharjeel Memon further stated that the mixed traffic lanes would be completed by August, while the Shahrah-e-Bhutto project would also be inaugurated on the 23rd, reducing commuters’ travel time by up to one hour.
He added that a proposal is also under consideration to construct an elevated roadway from Karachi Port to Qam Sadiq Bridge.
According to Sharjeel Memon, the Sindh Government is fully focused on mega development projects, which are being designed not only for today but for future generations, with benefits expected to last for the next 100 years.
The Transport Minister also announced that Pakistan’s first government-backed taxi scheme will be launched next month.
