A boy from Jacobabad, who was being treated in Karachi, has died after contracting rabies.

Two months ago, the child was bitten on his hands and legs by a stray dog. Rabies symptoms appeared soon after the attack.

Due to the lack of proper treatment, the boy was only given medication to relieve pain.

Hospital officials said the child was brought to the hospital in critical condition a day earlier but passed away today in Karachi.

This year, over 21 deaths from rabies have been reported in Sindh.

Medical experts say that timely administration of the anti-rabies vaccine after a dog bite provides nearly 100 per cent protection; however, once symptoms appear, the disease becomes fatal.

Doctors have advised citizens that in case of a dog bite, the affected area should be thoroughly washed with running water and soap for at least 15 minutes, followed by immediate completion of the vaccination course.
