A meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Human Rights turned tense on Wednesday as Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Abid Sher Ali and Awami National Party (ANP) Senator Aimal Wali Khan exchanged sharp remarks during a discussion on the suicide of a sanitary worker in Gujranwala.

The committee, chaired by Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri, was examining the case of an employee of the Gujranwala Waste Management Company (GWMC), who reportedly died by suicide after facing issues related to his salary and employment.

During the hearing, Aimal Wali questioned Suthra Punjab officials over the circumstances surrounding the worker's death and sought details about his employment and salary.

Abid Sher Ali objected to the manner of questioning and told Aimal to listen to the officials, saying that he was asking questions as though he were conducting an inquiry at a police station.

The exchange became heated, with Ali telling Aimal to "speak properly". Aimal responded that he was speaking properly and asked Ali to do the same.

Senator Qurratulain Marri and other committee members intervened to calm the situation.
