Fiza Ali’s jibe at journalist Sohail Waraich sparks mixed reactions online

Host and actress Fiza Ali’s remarks about veteran journalist Sohail Waraich have stirred mixed reactions on social media, after she took a playful yet sharp jab at his interview style, particularly his interactions with female guests. Warraich, however, took her comments in stride, responding with a smile.

The exchange took place during a special Eid talk show, where both Fiza Ali and Sohail Waraich appeared alongside other guests, including journalists Mohammad Shami, Irshad Bhatti, and Punjab Assembly Speaker alik Muhammad Ahmad.

When Fiza was asked what profession Sohail Waraich would have chosen if not journalism, she replied candidly, “You would have been a washroom sweeper in restaurants abroad.”

Explaining her comment, she added, “Because the women he interviews, he even visits their washrooms.” Her remark sparked laughter among the show’s guests, while Waraich simply smiled and refrained from reacting negatively.

Doubling down, Fiza continued, “Since he visits the washrooms of the women he interviews, who knows, maybe he also cleaned them, just didn’t show it on camera.”

The video clip of the show went viral, prompting a response from Sohail Waraich on X , where he addressed the comparison to a toilet sweeper.

“My status is even below than toilet cleaners: I’m a street dirt as Mian Muhammad Baksh called himself” galian da rora kora” cleaning toilet in my view is not insult as cleaning dirt of others a noble service,” he said.

Social media users were divided in their reactions. Some critics of Warraich welcomed the remarks, seeing them as humorous jabs at what they view as his soft questioning style in interviews with women. However, many others, including his supporters, criticised Fiza Ali and the show’s management for airing what they called inappropriate and disrespectful comments on national television.

Even some of Warraich’s detractors agreed that as a senior journalist, he deserved a basic level of respect, and Fiza Ali’s remarks were in poor taste.
