Renowned actress Madiha Imam advised young people against long-distance relationships, stating that ineffective communication during the distance exacerbates personal conflicts.

The actress recently appeared on a podcast where she opened up about the social media backlash she faced after marrying Indian filmmaker Moji Basar.

She also shared her experience of being in a long-distance relationship with her husband before their marriage.

Discussing how she coped with the online trolling of her marriage to an Indian national, the Bayhadh actor said, “I was heartbroken because I hadn’t faced trolling before, as I am a very quiet personality."

Madiha said that people assumed that since her husband is an Indian national, he must be Hindu, emphasising that the country has many people belonging to different religions.

"People made a mockery of my nikah," she said, adding that while she intended to clarify the rumours about her husband's religion by sharing their nikah pictures, the trolling did not stop.

The Dil-e-Momin actor criticised “the disgusting act of mocking people based on their appearance and a sacred ceremony like nikah.”

Madiha shared that she closed her comment section as the vicious trolling continued, despite her best efforts to clarify her husband's faith.

She maintained that disrespecting anyone based on their ethnicity or caste is “extremely shameful.”

On a lighter note, she opined that long-distance relationships are difficult to sustain because distance can hinder the amicable resolution of differences.

"I would advise people to avoid long-distance relationships. There's a lot of fighting in long-distance relationships. A fight that could be resolved in two minutes of face-to-face conversation can take a week to end over distance," she added.

Madiha acknowledged that long-distance relationships often bring excitement, but to minimise potential conflicts, she would advise people to opt for partners who are nearby.
