Komal Meer says she had to eat stale, leftover food during ‘Qalandar’ shoot

Komal Meer shared the struggles of acting, explaining how it requires stepping into the shoes of characters and performing actions that may not appeal to you personally, sometimes even making you reconsider your profession. However, she emphasized that doing justice to the craft is essential for any actor.
In a recent interview, she recounted an experience from the filming of a drama, revealing the extent of dedication required.
In a recent interview the ‘Badshah Begum’ actor recounted the shooting of a drama ‘Qalandar’ saying that she actually had to eat stale food from unclean dishes which was very difficult for her.
Meer dislosed that she even encountered tasks completely outside her usual experience. Among them she mentioned using a broom for the first time during the shoot.
She revealed a particularly challenging scene where she had to consume leftovers from unclean dishes while seated beside a clay stove, and she was tasked with capturing that moment on camera.
Initially, Komal assumed that she “wouldn't have to consume the stale food herself but rather simulate the scene with clean food.”
However, to her astonishment, the director insisted her to eat from the dirty dishes. Komal Meer shared her emotional reaction, saying , "I was on the verge of tears before enacting the scene, as the director arranged for genuinely dirty dishes and insisted I consume actual leftover food.”
The ‘Dhoka’ actor confessed that she did the scene out of compulsion and while doing it, “attempted to cheat” but the director insisted on authenticity and instructed her to consume the food genuinely.
Adding to the list of challenges, she also divulged an intense moment during the drama shoot, the actress portraying her 'chachi' (aunt) actually slapped her, and the unexpected act left Khan in tears.
Recalling the emotional episode, Komal shared, "She was supposed to hit me, and she did it for real. I started crying without using any tricks, and I even called my mother, expressing my reluctance to continue acting."
Reflecting on the overall experience, Komal expressed, “I got to do something, which I think,I wouldn’t have done otherwise, I challenged myself and the appreciation from viewers makes it all the more worthwhile."
