The inspirational Muslim scholar, Mufti Menk, known for his engaging interactions with audiences, recounted a humorous incident involving a Pakistani man. When he inquired about the man's well-being, the response "Tik Tok" left Mufti Menk puzzled.
Clarifying the incident where he mistakenly misunderstood the Urdu slang 'Theek Taak' for the video-sharing app TikTok, which he was unfamiliar with, he shared this amusing experience during one of his public addresses.
The video of him detailing the incident went viral on social media.
He shared, “Something very funny happened in Leeds. You know, I spoke to one of the elderly Pakistani uncles and I asked him how are you? He said, ‘Tik Tok (meaning Theek Taak).’ I asked, you saw me on TikTok? He said, main TikTok (I am fine)”
Mufti mentioned that he asked the man why he replied ‘TikTok,’ but the confusion still persisted until his brother told him, “Theek Taak” in Urdu means ‘I am fine’.
“My brother told me “Theek Taak” in Urd means I’m okay, I’m fine everything is fine,” he added.
Then he asked the audience, “So now if you don't know urdu and someone asks you how are you? You gonna say?”The crowd cheered ‘Theek Tak.’
“No, you gonna say Alhadulillah,” the Mufti replied with a grin.
