The Muslim holy month of Ramzan is likely to begin on March 11 or 12. This year Muslims across the world will observe 12-18 hour-long fasting.

As per the Muslims’ faith, the fast commences from pre-sunrise (before Fajar) and lasts until sunset (Maghrib), timings depend on where you are in the world.

In fasting Muslims avert themselves from eating, drinking, smoking, and many other things that have been prohibited in the religion during fasting.

Muslims believe that Ramzan is the month when the first verses of the holy book Quran were revealed on Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H).

Ramzan begins 10 to 12 days earlier each year, it depends on the Islamic lunar Hijri calendar whether the month of Shaban ends in 29 or 30 days long.

This year, the holy month is set to start on March 11 or 12 in Pakistan.

This year the duration between two prayers Fajar and Maghrib shrunk due to winter, as the season witnesses short days and long nights.

The fasting will commence around 5:15 am and will end after 6:30 PM which shows that the total duration of the fasting would be around 13 hours.

Muslims living in the world’s southernmost countries, such as Chile or New Zealand, will fast for an average of 12 hours 44 minutes.

On the other hand, there are many countries in the world including Finland, Iceland, and the surroundings where Muslims around the country will observe 17 long hours of fasting.
