Pakistani filmmaker Mohammed Ali (Mo) Naqvi has been nominated for an Emmy Award in the category of Outstanding Historical Documentary for his role as producer on the Netflix docuseries Turning Point: The Bomb & The Cold War.
The nine-part series, directed by Brian Knappenberger, investigates the legacy of the Cold War and its impact on current global crises.
This is Naqvi’s fifth career Emmy recognition and his fourth nomination, making him one of the most Emmy-nominated Pakistani filmmakers. In 2023, he became the first Pakistani nominated for a Primetime Emmy in Exceptional Merit in Documentary Filmmaking for The Accused: Damned or Devoted?, and previously won a Television Academy Honor in 2008 for his film Shame.
Turning Point includes exclusive interviews with prominent global leaders such as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, and former CIA Director Robert Gates.
It gained international popularity, ranking third among Netflix Original Series shortly after release.
Naqvi, who also serves as Chairman of the Pakistan Academy Selection Committee and a Concordia Fellow for 2025, called the nomination a step forward for Pakistani storytellers aiming to challenge dominant historical narratives on global platforms.
