The release of the first teaser for the Urdu-language dating reality show Lazwal Ishq sparked intense backlash and calls for boycott on social media, prompting the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) to issue a clarification on the matter.
Many users urged Pemra to impose a ban on the show, describing the show as against the values and culture of the society.
Amid the controversy, Pemra issued a statement clarifying that the program does not fall under its jurisdiction as it is being aired exclusively on social media platforms.
The teaser, which recently went public, also revealed actress Ayesha Omar as the host of the show.

The show, titled Lazawal Ishq, is described as the first of its kind for Urdu-speaking audiences. Inspired by the popular Turkish reality series Ask Adasi, it brings the format of romantic competition shows, unfamiliar to many in Pakistan, into the local entertainment space.
According to the released teaser, the program will feature four men and four women living together in a luxurious villa, with their every move captured on camera.
Over the course of what is expected to be around 100 episodes, participants will face various challenges, alliances, and rivalries, until a “winning couple” is chosen.
The teaser shows Ayesha Omar at Turkiye’s famous tourist spots, including scenes of her on a boat at sea before entering the lavish villa.
The residence boasts a swimming pool, a kitchen, and a spacious lawn, providing the backdrop for the contestants’ journey.
Eight participants are introduced arriving with their suitcases, ready to try their luck in the search for love.
Lazawal Ishq aims to deliver for Urdu-speaking viewers the same entertainment that Love Island created for British audiences.
