Celebrities across Pakistan took to social media to share their emotions and sentiments on the devastating incident of Gul Plaza fire.

Shae Gill expressed deep sorrow for victims and their families and sent prayers for them while highlighting the issue of bad governance in Karachi.

Meanwhile, Mahira Khan questioned whether the tragedy was “an accident or just plain indifference.” She talked about widespread concerns over basic fire safety measures missing from many buildings throughout Karachi.

Furthermore, another senior actress, Ayesha Omar said the people of Karachi “don’t deserve this,” praising their resilience despite “terrible infrastructure and systems not in place.” 

Actress Durefishan Saleem called for a government that “truly works for its people.” She said its “heartbreaking and shameful” to see people suffer like this.

Fatima Bhutto also urged the authorities to learn from repeated failures, she noted “sixty fires in shopping malls in 7 years,” she said that “Gul Plaza fire is the criminal result of this government”.

While, singer Hadiqa Kiani claimed that “now is the time for us as a nation and for our government to confront our weaknesses and strengthen them.”

The tragedy has reignited debate over Karachi’s safety standards, emergency preparedness and poor oversight as key factors that worsened the blaze’s impact.
