Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has assured the people of the province that there is no need to panic over the looming flood situation, as the provincial government has made all necessary preparations.

Addressing a press conference in Karachi, the senior minister said that floodwaters are entering Sindh after wreaking havoc in Punjab.

“We stand with the Punjab government in this difficult time and are ready to extend full cooperation,” he added.

Memon assured that rescue boats have been arranged and a monitoring cell has been set up by the chief minister to oversee the evolving situation.

He further stated that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari is in direct contact with all relevant authorities, while lawmakers have been instructed to remain in their constituencies.

Recalling the devastating 2010 floods, the minister said that lessons learned from that disaster have enabled Sindh to take stronger measures this time.

On the debate surrounding dams, Memon noted that three provinces have already expressed reservations in their assemblies, stressing that even if a dam were in place, natural calamities could not be entirely prevented.
