Quetta: The Balochistan Department of Education has released a report detailing the increasing number of non-functional schools in the province.
According to the report, 542 additional schools have shut down during the current government’s tenure in Balochistan.
The report highlighted that in order to reactivate the closed schools, there is a need for 16,000 teachers. This shortage of staff has been identified as one of the main reasons for the inactivity of these schools.
By May of this year, the number of non-functional schools had reached 3,152. However, as of September 2, this number rose to 3,694 across 35 districts of Balochistan.
Pishin district is the hardest hit, with 254 schools being closed, while Dera Bugti has the lowest number of inactive schools, with only 13 institutions currently non-operational.
The closure of schools in Balochistan has further exacerbated the education crisis in the province, where access to quality education is already a significant challenge.
This alarming increase in inactive schools highlights the urgent need for government intervention to address the shortage of teachers and infrastructure necessary to ensure education for all.
