Pakistan is marking the 10th death anniversary of legendary humanitarian Abdul Sattar Edhi.
Edhi Sahab’s lifelong commitment to serving humanity transformed millions of lives and established one of the country's most trusted charitable institutions.
Abdul Sattar Edhi passed away on July 8, 2016, at the age of 88 after prolonged illness.
Founder of Edhi Foundation, Edhi Sahab built Pakistan's largest volunteer welfare network.
This network includes ambulance services, hospitals, orphanages, shelters, maternity homes, rehabilitation centers and free burial services without discrimination.
Known for his simplicity and humility, Edhi Sahab spent decades personally responding to emergencies, collecting donations and overseeing relief efforts.
Journalists and rescue officials frequently relied on the Edhi Foundation for verified casualty figures during major incidents because its volunteers were often among the first responders at disaster sites.
Edhi worked alongside his wife, Bilquis Edhi, who played a vital role in expanding the foundation's welfare services, particularly for abandoned children and women in need. Together, they created a humanitarian legacy that continues to serve thousands every day.
A decade after his passing, tributes continue to pour in from across Pakistan and around the world, with many remembering Edhi Sahab not only as a philanthropist but as a symbol of compassion, selflessness and public service.
